160th Commemoration U.S.-Dakota War

Jan Klein &  Joyce Kloncz spent the weekend in New Ulm commemorating the 1862 U.S. - Dakota War! We attended the wreath laying at Milford Monument, visited the Open House at the Brown County Historical Society and toured the "Never Shall I forget: A New Look" exhibit, did the walking tour of Downtown New Ulm, attended a wreath laying at the Defenders Monument with the New Ulm Battery and finally, the banquet with keynote speak Stephen Osman who spoke on Minnesota's Own Civil War. All events were planned by the BCHS, The Junior Pioneers and the New Ulm Turners, a well-organized collaboration of tributes and remembrances. Plus we cleaned the tombstone of our New Ulm ancestors, Carl, Christiana and Carolina Clasen. We also visited the Clasen family homestead and Schell's Brewery.

We are grateful for the warm welcome we received from New Ulmites and enjoyed seeing old F&F friends. These war stories never get old plus we learned more and more details of that tragic week in Minnesota history. Click on each photo.
